The highly anticipated rematch between Tanzania’s Karim “Mtu Kazi” Mandonga and Kenya’s Daniel Wanyonyi is confirmed to take place at the Sarit Expo Centre on July 22.
The first encounter between these light heavyweight fighters captivated audiences four months ago, and now they are ready to settle the score in what promises to be an electrifying showdown.
Organized by Ultra Fight Series Promotions in collaboration with Sarit Expo Centre, this professional boxing extravaganza will feature nine supporting bouts alongside the main event.
Maurice Odera, CEO of Ultra Fight Series Promotions, announced that both Mandonga and Wanyonyi have signed contracts for the highly anticipated “Repeat or Revenge” battle.
In their previous meeting on January 14 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Mandonga emerged victorious over Wanyonyi.
With over 2,500 fans roaring in the background, Wanyonyi, struggling to keep up, chose not to answer the bell for the sixth round of the non-title bout, remaining seated in his corner. Referee Julius Odhiambo had no choice but to stop the fight.
Both boxers come into this rematch on the back of wins against Ugandan opponents at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on March 25.
Mandonga secured a unanimous victory over Kenneth Lukyamuzi to claim the vacant Pugilistic Syndicate of Tanzania (PST) light heavyweight title, while Wanyonyi knocked out Charles Kakande in the first round.
Maurice Odera expressed the promotion’s intentions for Mandonga to defend his PST title, or alternatively, to compete for the vacant East and Central Africa Boxing Commission light heavyweight title.
During the press conference, Mandonga, known for his signature “Sugunyo” hooks from Ukraine, vowed to defeat Wanyonyi using his new “missiles” dubbed “Kikuki” from Russia. He confidently proclaimed, “I am more polished than when I defeated him…he won’t last long again since what I have is something different and more lethal.”
Wanyonyi, determined to knock out Mandonga in the first round and regain his pride as the African champion, admitted that he had not been adequately prepared in their initial encounter.
He stated, “I learned from my mistakes, and let Mandonga bring all the missiles and styles that he always promises from Ukraine or Russia. I will stop him in his tracks. I have regained the form I had when I won the Africa title, and victory will mean a lot to me.”
The tentative card for the event includes an exciting lineup of bouts featuring talented fighters from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The headline fight will be the ten-round light heavyweight clash between Karim “Mtu Kazi” Mandonga and Daniel Wanyonyi.
Additionally, fans can look forward to matchups such as Albert Kimario vs. Ben Ssajjabi in the super bantamweight category, Consolata Musanga vs. Rachel Musubika in the featherweight division, and Wilson Olembo vs. Suleiman Gitau in the super flyweight class.
As anticipation builds for the rematch, boxing enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the clash between these two talented fighters and the entire night of action-packed professional boxing at the Sarit Expo Centre.
