The dreams of Mara Sugar FC to secure a spot in the Kenya Premier League have been dealt a severe blow with the unexpected resignation of their head coach, Francis Xavier.
This decision followed a painful 2-0 defeat to Mathare United at the Utalii grounds in Nairobi, marking Mara Sugar’s first loss of the season.
Francis Xavier is now poised to join the coaching staff of Kenya Premier League outfit Sofapaka, where he will serve as an assistant coach under the newly appointed head coach, Ezekiel Akwana. In the interim, Godfrey Naibei will step into the role of head coach for Mara Sugar.
Mara Sugar’s team manager, Thomas Mboya, shared that the process of recruiting a new head coach has already commenced. Mboya noted that they would be meticulously reviewing applicants’ CVs, with oversight from the club’s technical director, Boniface Ambani, to ensure they find the right fit.
In addition to seeking a coach with a minimum of a Caf ‘C’ qualification, Mboya underscored the importance of appointing a disciplined coach who can positively represent the club.
Meanwhile, Kibera Black Stars have named Moses Onyango as their new head coach, with former left-back Noah Abich and goalkeeper coach Phillip Odhiambo as part of the coaching staff.
This development comes in the wake of the club’s decision to part ways with its entire technical bench, including head coach Samuel Njuguna, assistant coach Said Mohammed, and goalkeeper trainer Charles Abwodha.
In a statement, the club expressed confidence in the vast experience of these newly appointed coaches in their respective roles and their commitment to helping the team achieve its strategic objectives.
