Faith Kipyegon, the exceptional marathoner who recently shattered two world records, has received an array of impressive rewards from the Kenyan government.
During a heartfelt ceremony held at State House in Nairobi on Tuesday, President William Ruto hosted Kipyegon to celebrate her outstanding achievements on the track.
In a remarkable feat, Kipyegon broke two world records within a span of one week at the Diamond League events in Florence, Italy and Paris, France. She blazed through the 1500 meters race in a stunning time of 3:49.11 and dominated the 5000 meters event with a remarkable time of 14:05.20.
President Ruto, acknowledging her incredible accomplishments, announced that the government will now award a cash prize of Ksh.5 million to any athlete who breaks a world record.
During her emotional speech, Kipyegon revealed that she had made a promise to her father: if she were to break a world record, she would buy him a new vehicle. With the generous cash prize from the government, Kipyegon expressed her joy and gratitude, as she can now fulfil her promise and purchase a car for her father.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she thanked President Ruto and expressed her happiness at being able to afford a house in Nairobi with the reward money.
In addition to the cash prize, Kipyegon was also presented with a brand-new house valued at Ksh.6 million, located in the prestigious Park Road area of Nairobi. This remarkable gesture from the government recognizes Kipyegon’s exceptional talent and serves as a testament to her dedication and hard work.
The ceremony not only celebrated Kipyegon’s remarkable achievements but also highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting and honouring its sports champions.
President Ruto emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding athletes who bring pride and glory to the country, and he announced plans to provide diplomatic passports to athletes, ensuring smoother travel experiences for them.
Kipyegon’s inspiring journey and triumphant accomplishments continue to inspire young athletes across Kenya. Her record-breaking performances, combined with the government’s recognition and rewards, serve as a testament to the nation’s commitment to sports excellence and the celebration of extraordinary talent.
