Mary Moraa, the Commonwealth Games 800m champion, delivered an exceptional performance at the World Championships trials in Nyayo Stadium, clocking a new national record of 50.38 seconds in the women’s 400m race.

Moraa electrified the crowd with her stunning victory in the one-lap race, surpassing her own previous record of 50.44 seconds set at the Botswana Grand Prix on April 29.

Reflecting on her remarkable achievement, Moraa expressed her surprise at breaking the national record, especially given the challenging weather conditions. She initially aimed to run well in the race, but her outstanding result exceeded her expectations.

As the world bronze medallist, Moraa has already achieved the qualifying standard for the global event in the 400m, having clocked under 51.00 seconds.

Additionally, her status as the reigning Diamond League winner has secured her an automatic slot in the women’s 800m event.

Moraa expressed her intention to compete in both events, the 400m and 800m, although the final decision will be made by the selection panel.

With her exceptional performance and determination, Mary Moraa has solidified her position as a formidable athlete on the international stage, setting new records and aiming for further success in her upcoming competitions.
