Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano expressed frustration over what he labeled as ‘daylight robbery’ after his team played to a goalless draw against Posta Rangers in an FKF-PL match at the Ruaraka Sports Complex.
Matano claimed that his team was denied clear penalties during the match, and he criticized the officiating.
In a post-match interview, Matano voiced his displeasure, saying, “Very poor and the poorest. I have never seen a referee like this one. How come everyone sees! One person (Center referee) can’t see a penalty, two and three of them? We came here to play against a top-of-the-league team in Posta Rangers, but if this is how they are top there, through favoritism, then that’s not football.”
He continued, “I have lost many matches but didn’t complain. But this one is an obvious robbery. Daylight robbery!”
Poor officiating has been a recurring issue in the top-flight league, with Nzoia Sugar also raising complaints in their 2-2 draw against league leaders Gor Mahia.
Matano called on the referees’ body to take action against the center referee, urging either suspension or expulsion.
“And he does it on purpose; it’s not that he doesn’t know what he is doing because it’s in his mind. He should be suspended or even expelled because he has no room in officiating football, and he is killing football and the spirit of players who have worked so hard to win…But he is coming here like he is bribed because he made sure that we can’t win,” Matano emphasized.
After securing a point in the match, Tusker currently sits 12th in the league standings with 16 points, trailing leaders and defending champions Gor Mahia by 12 points.
