Police FC secured their spot in the FKF MozzartBet Cup final by narrowly defeating AFC Leopards 1-0 in a dramatic turn of events at the Police Sacco Stadium.

The victory was largely attributed to the heroic efforts of goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, who made three crucial saves on Monday morning.

The match, originally disrupted on Sunday due to crowd disturbances, resumed for the remaining 30 minutes plus an additional eight minutes of stoppage time. The decision to continue the game came from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions Committee after the match was interrupted at the 60th minute when second assistant referee Samuel Kuria sustained an injury from a thrown object.

Police FC had been in the lead since the 8th minute, thanks to Tito Okello’s goal. Despite rumors of a potential boycott by the Leopards in response to the previous day’s suspension, the team ultimately decided to participate, starting the game 30 minutes past the scheduled 11 am kickoff without much preparation.

Goalkeeper Matasi, recently criticized for his performance, proved his mettle by making a series of impressive saves, reaffirming his status as one of Kenya’s top goalkeepers.

Notably, he skillfully tipped over a freekick from Kaycie Odhiambo and later denied Kevin Kimani and Clifton Miheso with two more remarkable saves.

With this win, Police FC will face KCB FC in the finals, eyeing their first major trophy and the opportunity to represent Kenya in the upcoming season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
