Kenya’s junior rugby 7s team, the Morans, secured the sixth position following a spirited but challenging match against Zimbabwe, ending with a score of 28-19 in favor of the latter In the Rugby Africa 7s Cup held in Mauritius.

Zimbabwe’s team, known as the Cheetahs, started the match with remarkable energy, quickly scoring two tries and establishing a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes.

The Morans, undeterred, rallied back with William Muhanji scoring a try shortly after, signaling a potential comeback.

The second half saw a dynamic shift with Victor Mola seizing an opportunity on the right flank, narrowing Zimbabwe’s lead. However, the Cheetahs responded swiftly with another try, dampening Kenya’s aspirations for a fifth-place finish.

Despite the setback, the Morans continued to fight valiantly, with Joel Inzuga scoring and Amon Wamalwa securing the conversion, keeping the hopes alive momentarily.

A decisive try by Zimbabwe in the final minute sealed the match, placing the former Africa 7s champions in sixth place.

Earlier in the day, the Morans faced a defeat against South Africa with a score of 19-7 in the quarterfinals but bounced back to beat Cote d’Ivoire 22-5 in the semifinals of the fifth-place playoff. The team’s determination throughout the tournament was evident, despite the mixed outcomes.
