Nairobi United edged out Mombasa Elite with a 3-2 victory, propelling them to third place in the National Super League standings in a thrilling encounter at Kasarani Annex.

The win not only bolstered Nairobi United’s promotion hopes but also intensified the relegation concerns for Mombasa Elite.

Nairobi United, now with 63 points, surpassed Naivas and are hot on the heels of league leaders Mara Sugar. However, their hold on third place could be short-lived if Naivas triumphs over Kajiado FC in their upcoming match.

The team, under the guidance of coach Edwin Mwaura, has hit a rich vein of form, crucial for their aspirations of ascending to Kenya’s top-tier football league.

Isaac Omweri was the hero of the day, netting twice for Nairobi United, including a 29th-minute opener and a quick response to Emanuel Otieno’s equalizer. Emanuel Lunalo’s acrobatic effort brought the game level at halftime, but Elson Wangamati’s goal right after the interval sealed the deal for Nairobi United.

Coach Mwaura hailed the victory as a significant step towards achieving their goal of promotion. On the other side, Mombasa Elite’s coach Patrick Nyale remains defiant, committed to steering his team away from the drop zone as the season reaches its climax.

The loss leaves Mombasa Elite precariously close to relegation, with their fate potentially influenced by the weekend’s results.
