Neuville Wins WRC Opener In Monte Carlo
Thierry Neuville showcased remarkable driving skills in the French Alps, outpacing Sebastien Ogier to clinch victory in the opening round of the World Rally Championship in Monte Carlo on Sunday.
Beginning the day with a narrow 3.3-second lead, Neuville navigated his Hyundai adeptly through the challenging mountain roads, securing the fastest times in Sunday’s final leg and extending his lead to 16.1 seconds.
This triumph marked Neuville’s 20th career win and his second in the Monte Carlo Rally. With a flawless performance, he also claimed victory in the Power Stage, earning full points and taking the championship lead with 30 points. Ogier, driving for Toyota, finished second, trailing Neuville by six points in the standings.
Welsh driver Elfyn Evans settled for third place in his Toyota. Despite the challenging week, including personal loss and emotional turmoil, eight-time WRC champion Ogier acknowledged Neuville’s speed and skill, setting the stage for an intriguing season ahead. The next rally is scheduled in Sweden in three weeks.
