Nine counties have officially confirmed their participation in the upcoming Intercounty Swimming Championships scheduled to take place from November 11-12 at the M-Pesa Academy in Thika, Kiambu.
The Chairman of Kiambu County, Stanley Kaberu, has announced that the hosting county, Kiambu, along with Nairobi, Kajiado, Nyeri, Machakos, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Mombasa, will be participating in this prestigious championship.
According to Kaberu, each county will be sending its top swimmers to compete in the event, which marks an exciting phase of the ongoing swimming season. The championship serves as valuable preparation for the National Short Course Championship and the CANA Zone 3 event to be held in Rwanda.
“This presents an excellent opportunity for our swimmers to achieve excellent timing as we look forward to the major championships later this year and into 2024,” he stated.
The Kenya Aquatics First Vice President also confirmed that discussions with potential sponsors are underway to support the two-day championship. The organization is keen on involving sponsors and engaging the county government to not only back the event but also support their various initiatives for the new swimming season.
Kaberu expressed his confidence that, following the conclusion of elections and the World Aquatics’ approval of the national office, everything is set for the upcoming season. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing talent development at the grassroots level, recognizing the vast potential within the region.
Looking ahead, Kaberu mentioned the National Short Course Championship scheduled for December at the M-Pesa Academy.
He expressed hope that the opportunity to host this championship will be granted, highlighting the facility’s excellent condition and the county’s active efforts to promote the sport, particularly in public schools. The success story of Mugomoini Primary School was cited as an example of the significant strides made in swimming over the past year.
