Omanyala and Moraa Impress at Botswana Golden Grand Prix
Ferdinand Omanyala narrowly missed breaking his own African record as he clocked a wind-aided time of 9.78 seconds at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix on Saturday.
This marks the first time that Omanyala has run under 10 seconds this season, with the Commonwealth Games 100m champion hitting peak form ahead of the upcoming Kip Keino Classic.
Omanyala had set the African record of 9.77 seconds in the 100m at the same event in 2021.
Letsile Tebogo, the World junior champion, finished second in the race with a time of 9.91 seconds, while Kenneth Bednarek of the United States rounded off the podium with a time of 10.02 seconds.
In the women’s 400m race, Commonwealth Games 800m champion Mary Moraa set a new personal best of 50.44 seconds to take the top spot. She finished ahead of Coetzee Miranda of South Africa, who clocked 51.44 seconds to take second place.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 200m race, Boniface Mweresa finished in second place with a time of 20.76 seconds, behind South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson.
