Commonwealth champion Ferdinand Omanyala is gearing up to face his South African rival Akani Simbine in an electrifying men’s 100m race at the Monaco Diamond League on Friday.
Simbine has been in scorching form, securing his second consecutive Diamond League victory last weekend with a blazing time of 9.97 seconds in Silesia.
His outstanding performance saw him defeat reigning world champion Fred Kerley, who suffered his first defeat of the season and finished in second place after a thrilling finish.
Omanyala, who holds the fastest personal best time in the field (9.77 seconds) and the season’s best time (9.84 seconds), currently ranks third in this season’s Diamond League standings. However, Kerley, who previously defeated Omanyala at the Florence Diamond League on July 2, will not be participating in the Monaco race.
Joining Omanyala and Simbine in the field will be Letsile Tebogo, Botswana’s Under-20 100m champion, and Ackeem Blake from Jamaica.
Although Omanyala is yet to claim victory in a Diamond League race, he has showcased impressive performances in Rabat, Florence, and Paris. Fans can expect an exhilarating clash between Omanyala and Simbine as they vie for supremacy on the Monaco track.
