Ferdinand Omanyala, the reigning Commonwealth Games 100m gold medalist, continued his preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics with a strong performance at the Atlanta City Games, securing a second-place finish on Saturday.

Recording a time of 10.00 seconds in the men’s 100m event, Omanyala was narrowly outpaced by South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who took the gold with a world-leading and personal best time of 9.90 seconds. Kendall Williams of the United States claimed the third spot with a time of 10.05 seconds.

Omanyala, who is aiming for a standout performance at his second Olympic appearance, emphasized a strategic approach to the season. “Our focus is on one race at a time. With the Olympics as our main goal, we’re careful not to reach our peak too soon. Each race is an opportunity to improve,” stated the African 100m record holder.

This event marked Omanyala’s return to the track following his participation in the World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas. There, he joined forces with Mark Otieno, Meshack Babu, and Mike Mokamba in the men’s 4x100m relay. The Kenyan team came close to an Olympic berth and a podium finish, clocking 39.15 seconds to place fourth.

Following his performance in Atlanta, Omanyala is set to compete at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene, where he will run the men’s 100m on June 25th. His schedule also includes the Jamaica Grand Prix, slated for July 1st.
