Victor Omune rescued AFC Leopards from a goal deficit, securing a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka FC at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Omune, who earned a rare start after spending most of the year on the bench, justified his inclusion in the starting lineup by finding the net in the 60th minute.
Sofapaka’s Rodgers Kipkemoi had opened the scoring just 21 seconds into the match. However, his fortunes turned sour in the second half as he received a second yellow card and was sent off.
The draw provided a valuable point for Zedekiah Otieno’s Sofapaka, lifting them two points clear of the relegation zone. AFC Leopards, on the other hand, remained in eighth place with 35 points.
Despite conceding early, Leopards fought back diligently. Omune’s equalizer came when he latched onto a lofted ball, expertly guiding it past the keeper into an empty net.
Sofapaka’s resilient defense held firm, ensuring a draw despite being reduced to 10 men. They maintained their tactical discipline throughout the match.
In another match, Nzoia Sugar suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Murang’a Seal, dealing a significant blow to their hopes of avoiding relegation from the top flight.
With only nine matches remaining, Nzoia finds themselves 10 points adrift of safety and eight points away from the playoff position.
