The Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday pits Nigeria against Ivory Coast, promising a thrilling clash between two footballing giants eager to clinch the coveted trophy.

Nigeria, eyeing their fourth AFCON title, aim to match the tally of their old rivals Ghana, while Ivory Coast seeks to secure their third title and become the first host nation to lift the trophy since 2006.

Ivory Coast’s journey to the final has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite a rocky start with a loss to Nigeria and a humiliating defeat to Equatorial Guinea, they persevered, securing their place in the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. Interim coach Emerse Fae led them to victory against Senegal and Mali before Sebastien Haller’s heroics propelled them past the Democratic Republic of Congo in the semi-final.

For Nigeria, the tournament began with uncertainty, but a tactical switch to a three-man central defense revitalized their campaign. Led by coach Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles recorded four consecutive wins, including a crucial victory over Ivory Coast in the group stage.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen, despite facing challenges in finding the net, remains determined to bring glory to Nigeria, emphasizing the collective goal over personal achievements.

As the final showdown approaches, both teams are poised for an epic battle to etch their names in AFCON history. With fans eagerly awaiting the outcome, the stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to what has been a captivating tournament.
