Plateau Queens Triumph in Nyanza Region to Earn National Chapa Dimba Finals Spot
Plateau Queens secured a thrilling victory in the Girls’ Safaricom Chapa Dimba Nyanza Region final, defeating Victoria Sports Academy in a penalty shootout that ended 4-3 in their favour.
The hard-fought match had ended 1-1 in regular time, with Victoria Sports Academy equalizing in the 24th minute through Yvonne Adhiambo’s powerful header from a corner kick.
Plateau Queens had taken an early lead in the 13th minute thanks to a goal from their captain, Velma Atieno. This victory earned Nyakach Girls from Kisumu a place in the National final, along with Brenda Girls from the Western Region.
Plateau Queens dominated the individual awards, with Velma Awour being named the Most Valuable Player, Mercy Akoth receiving the Best Goalkeeper award, and Swaumu Masungo taking home the Golden Ball.
The National finals are scheduled for March 2024 in Nairobi, where an All-Star team will be selected to attend a boot camp in Spain.
