Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has emphasized the importance of strict adherence to traffic rules and general safety regulations ahead of the upcoming Safari Rally.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, Namwamba expressed confidence in the preparedness for the third leg of this year’s WRC series, which will see the Safari action returning to its traditional Easter season slot.
While ensuring security measures are in place, Namwamba also stressed the need to strike a balance between safety and allowing spectators to enjoy the rally festivities.
He stated, “We want a secure event but we also want Kenyans to have fun. So, even as we introduce these measures, we don’t want to take the fun out of the rally.”
Assistant Inspector General of Police Stephen Etyang echoed Namwamba’s sentiments, affirming their readiness for the event. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of the public during the festive season, particularly with the high volume of traffic expected between Nairobi, Naivasha, and Nakuru.
Patricia Mutheu, CEO of the Matatu Owners Association, emphasized the importance of observing traffic rules to prevent traffic congestion during the rally. “We have advised our people on the importance of observing traffic rules and maintaining one lane to ensure a successful event and promote our country,” she said.
Safari Rally CEO Charles Gacheru confirmed that all stages are prepared for pre-visit exercises ahead of the main event. He reassured the public, stating, “We have all the necessary documents and insurance for this rally. We are ready for pre-visits on Monday and Tuesday.”
The Safari Rally is scheduled to take place from March 28 to March 31, promising an exciting event for participants and spectators alike.
