In response to the East Africa Pamoja Bid’s successful capture of the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), President William Ruto has pledged his government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a world-class event for Kenya and its East African neighbours, Uganda and Tanzania.

The decision by the CAF Executive Committee to award hosting rights to these three East African nations marks a historic moment, and President Ruto is the first Head of State to react to this exciting news.

During the official opening of the Nairobi International Trade Fair at the Jamhuri ASK Grounds, President Ruto congratulated the Ministry of Sports and all stakeholders for this significant achievement. He emphasized the government’s determination to provide all necessary resources to guarantee the successful hosting of AFCON 2027.

President Ruto affirmed, “We will mobilize every resource and every person and sector to make sure we deliver a world-class football event in 2027. We will make sure whatever infrastructure is required will be made available to make sure we move Kenya to the next level in our sports industry.”

Repair work has already been commissioned by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) at the Nyayo, Kasarani, and Kipchoge Keino stadiums, along with the construction of a new 50,000-seater stadium at the Jamhuri Grounds on Ngong Road.

To host the AFCON, six venues are required to accommodate 24 teams, and it is expected that each of the three participating countries will present two final venues.

Kenya will showcase the Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums, with the Kip Keino Stadium in high-altitude Eldoret serving as an alternative venue.
