The spotlight shines brightly on the Ruiru Sports Club as it hosts the highly anticipated 2024 Captain’s Prize golf tournament this week, coinciding with the club’s momentous 100th anniversary.
This event marks a significant milestone as it bids farewell to outgoing captain, Jessy Ndegwa, culminating his distinguished two-term tenure at the helm.
Ndegwa, who previously served as the club’s vice-captain for two years, leaves behind a legacy of remarkable achievements, including course enhancements, increased sponsorship, and the nurturing of junior golf talent.
With an impressive lineup of sponsors such as Family Bank, Kenya Pipeline Company, CIC Insurance, Madison Insurance, and AM Communications Ltd, among others, this year’s tournament promises fierce competition. Over 700 golfers from all corners of the country are expected to grace the greens, ensuring an exhilarating spectacle.
Throughout the week-long festivities, both amateur and professional golfers will vie for top honors and bragging rights on the course.
Captain Ndegwa extended a warm welcome to all participants, emphasizing the tournament’s significance as not just a sporting event, but also an opportunity for networking and camaraderie.
The tournament commenced with the juniors’ event on Sunday, attracting an impressive turnout of 40 participants. Yesterday, the caddies took center stage, with an astounding 100 participants showcasing their skills on the greens.
Action heats up on Tuesday (March 5) and Thursday (March 7) with exclusive Curtain Raiser events, featuring special nearest-to-the-pin competitions.
The pinnacle of the tournament unfolds on Saturday, with golfers teeing off at 6:20 am, capturing the nation’s attention as they compete on the legendary course. Throughout the day, participants and fans alike will be treated to live entertainment from some of Kenya’s top musicians, adding to the excitement of this extraordinary golfing experience.
