Despite Marcus Rashford giving Manchester United an early lead in the first half, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard quickly equalized.
Arsenal had a penalty initially awarded but overturned after a VAR check, while Manchester United’s substitute Alejandro Garnacho had a late goal disallowed for offside.
In added time, Declan Rice capitalized on a corner and netted a deflected shot past Andre Onana, securing Arsenal’s win. Gabriel Jesus put the icing on the cake with another goal.
Arsenal’s victory puts them fifth in the table, trailing league leaders Manchester City by two points, while Manchester United sits 11th.
The match saw Arsenal aggressively dominate, with Kai Havertz missing a golden opportunity to score. Manchester United’s goal came against the run of play, thanks to a swift counter-attack by Marcus Rashford, who netted a superb shot.
Arsenal swiftly equalized with Odegaard’s goal just a minute later. Despite their energetic play, Arsenal managed just one shot on target in the first half.
The second half favoured Arsenal, who were awarded a penalty that was ultimately overturned by VAR. Although Manchester United posed a threat on the break, Arsenal looked more likely to secure the win.
In the 88th minute, United appeared to snatch the victory, but VAR ruled Garnacho offside.
The result adds to Manchester United’s woes away from home, as they lost all six matches to other top-seven teams last season, conceding an average of 3.66 goals per away match.
