Rising Stars to Face Zimbabwe in The Tri-Nation Tournament in Malawi Without Head Coach Babu
Kenya’s Rising Stars face a hurdle against Zimbabwe in the tri-nation tournament in Malawi, with their head coach Salim Babu unable to accompany them due to travel document issues, as announced by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Babu, who had successfully led the Under-18 boys to victory at last year’s CECAFA Championship, was appointed as the U20 team’s head coach. Despite overseeing the team’s training during their residential camp, he was unable to join them in Malawi.
In his absence, assistant coach Anthony Akhulia, the head coach of Bidco United, will take charge of the team during the tournament. Akhulia led the team through their initial training session upon their arrival in Lilongwe.
The Kenyan squad is set to kick off their campaign against Zimbabwe on Friday afternoon, followed by a match against hosts Malawi on Sunday.
Despite the setback, team captain Stanley Wilson remains optimistic about their prospects in the tournament. He expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, highlighting their strong chemistry forged during their time together at the Under-18 CECAFA Championship.
Wilson emphasized the team’s readiness and unity, stating that their familiarity with each other’s playing styles would work to their advantage. He affirmed the team’s determination to perform well and return home with the trophy.
“We understand each other, and we know how everyone plays, so it will make it easier for us,” Wilson remarked, underscoring their collective resolve to showcase their abilities on the field and achieve success in the tournament.
