This intriguing sport is a blend of roller skates, basketball, handball, and throwball, making it a one-of-a-kind experience for both players and spectators.

The mastery of this exciting sport has led Kenya to become the champion of this year’s Roll Ball World Cup, a prestigious achievement for the nation.

So, how is Roll Ball played, and what are the rules that govern this exciting sport? The game involves players donning roller shoes, knee pads, and helmets, combining the elements of three sports into one dynamic game.

Each team consists of 12 players, with 6 on the field and 6 on the reserve, including a goalkeeper. The objective is to score as many goals as possible within the stipulated time. The duration of the game varies depending on the level of play, with senior-level matches usually played in two 20-minute periods.

The ball used in Roll Ball is similar in size to a basketball, and players use one or both hands to pass it to their teammates.

Dribbling and passing are crucial techniques to advance the ball towards the goal, akin to basketball. However, Roll Ball adds a unique twist by allowing players to dribble using both hands, setting it apart from traditional basketball rules.

Roll Ball’s roots trace back to India, where Raju Dabhade, a sports teacher in Pune, invented the game. Raju also serves as the secretary of the International Roll Ball Federation, the governing body of the sport.

On the women’s side, Kenya demonstrated fireworks by defending their title on the global stage with a resounding 5-0 victory over Egypt, crowning them the 2023 World Cup winners. This is not the first time Kenya has excelled at the highest level, as they previously won the World Cup in 2015.

As Roll Ball gains momentum in Kenya, the sport is attracting a growing fan base, and the achievements of the national team are sparking excitement and passion for this unique and captivating game.

With a winning formula that combines skill, strategy, and athleticism, Roll Ball promises to carve its niche in the world of sports and captivate audiences both in Kenya and beyond.
