Roma has made a significant double signing to strengthen their midfield, securing the services of Leandro Paredes and Renato Sanches from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Leandro Paredes has committed to a contract until June 30, 2025, with an estimated value of four million euros ($4.4 million) per season. On the other hand, Renato Sanches arrives on a loan deal with an obligation to purchase based on certain predefined conditions, as confirmed by Roma.
Paredes, a key figure in Argentina’s World Cup victory last year, returns to Roma where he previously played from 2014 to 2017 before moving to Zenit Saint Petersburg.
The 29-year-old midfielder will proudly wear the number 16 shirt, a symbol associated with the club’s home-grown hero and fellow World Cup champion, Daniele De Rossi.
In a gesture of respect, Paredes shared that he sought De Rossi’s permission before choosing the iconic number. “He sent me a message to say that he would be delighted if I picked that number. It will be an honour,” Paredes expressed through Roma’s social media platforms.
Paredes’ move to Roma follows Juventus’ decision not to exercise their option to purchase him after his loan spell at PSG last season. Having secured three league titles and two French Cups with PSG, Paredes brings a wealth of experience to the Italian club.
Renato Sanches, the Portuguese international, joins Roma following an unconvincing season at PSG. The 25-year-old midfielder, who clinched the Euro 2016 title with his national team, reunites with compatriot Jose Mourinho at Roma.
Sanches’ loan agreement, reportedly set at one million euros, will transition into a permanent transfer worth 14 million euros if he participates in 60 per cent of Roma’s matches.
As the new season commences, Sanches and the Roma squad, under the guidance of Mourinho, eagerly anticipate their first fixture against Salernitana on Sunday.
This double midfield acquisition reflects Roma’s commitment to strengthening their lineup as they set their sights on success in domestic and international competitions.
