Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s second-ranked player, made quick work of her quarterfinal match at the Italian Open, defeating Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

The victory, secured in just over an hour, propels Sabalenka into a semifinal clash with either her fellow Belarusian Victoria Azarenka or the United States’ Danielle Collins.

Looking ahead, Sabalenka could find herself in a rematch of the Madrid Open final against the current world leader, Iga Swiatek, if both players advance.

Swiatek is set to compete against Coco Gauff, the world number three, in a historic semifinal that marks the first time since the 2013 French Open that the top three women in the world rankings have all made it to the semifinals of a WTA 250 event or higher.

Sabalenka expressed her enthusiasm for the tournament in Rome, citing the supportive crowd and vibrant atmosphere as key motivators. “Winning here is a dream for me,” she shared. “The joy of playing and the support I receive here keep me focused and driven to fight for every point, regardless of the score.” Sabalenka’s passion and determination could be the deciding factors as she continues her quest for the title.
