Safaricom Chapa Dimba’s Nairobi regional finals commenced on Wednesday at Jacaranda Grounds with a host of community outreach programs aimed at enriching the lives of locals in the area.

The telco giant’s top brass flagged off the event, setting the stage for a series of initiatives leading up to the football extravaganza scheduled for the weekend at the newly inaugurated Dandora Stadium.

Among the community engagement initiatives is a free Digital and Financial Literacy training session, a collaborative effort between Safaricom and Britam Insurance Company. This session, slated for Thursday at Dandora Social Hall, targets Safaricom customers in the region, including Boda Boda riders, vendors, small business operators, and shopkeepers. The aim is to equip them with knowledge that fosters a culture of saving and enhances preparedness for credit and investment opportunities.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, emphasized the importance of empowering the community through knowledge, citing it as a cornerstone of progress. He highlighted the pivotal role played by individuals such as Boda Boda riders and small business operators in driving local economies and national prosperity.

Additionally, a players and coaches’ clinic will be held, offering valuable lessons in skill development, social values, teamwork, and leadership. Coaches will gain insights into effective training methods, tactical approaches, and player motivation and communication.

The clinic will also include training on the use of Safaricom’s newly introduced GPS Sports Vests, AI-powered devices designed to enhance players’ performance and scouting opportunities by capturing data on various aspects of their play.

These community engagement initiatives will lead up to the Safaricom Chapa Dimba regional final matches at Dandora Stadium, where eight teams (four boys’ and four girls’ teams) will compete.

Girls’ teams include Masericordiae Queens (Makadara), Page Vision Ladies (Mathare Valley), Dagoretti Mixed Girls, and Beijing Raiders (Mathare Valley). Boys’ teams feature Young Kings (Dandora), Lucky Summer Sports Club (Lucky Summer), Macmillan FC (Landimawe), and Dagoretti Lions (Dagoretti).
