Safaricom Chapa Dimba Takes the Spotlight in Coastal Region
Safaricom has launched the Coastal regional finals of the Chapa Dimba football tournament, accompanied by various community outreach initiatives to uplift the lives of locals in the region.
The football extravaganza is scheduled to take place this weekend at Mbaraki Stadium. The initiatives conducted on Monday encompassed free Medical Camps, Stakeholders’ Engagement, Players’ and Coaches Clinics, and Digital & Financial Literacy training.
The Financial Digital Literacy training, a collaboration between Safaricom and Britam Insurance Company, is tailored for Boda Boda riders, vendors, small business operators, and Safaricom customers.
The football clinic for players and coaches will provide valuable lessons in skill development, social values, teamwork, and leadership. Coaches will gain insights into effective training methods, tactical approaches, and motivational techniques.
Moreover, training sessions on Safaricom’s newly introduced GPS Sports Vests, AI-powered to enhance players’ performance and scouting opportunities, will be conducted. The vests capture player data, including total distance, speed, power plays, and more, aiding players in understanding their strengths and weaknesses.
Safaricom PLC CEO, Peter Ndegwa, expressed delight in resuming the football tournament and emphasized its dual purpose of nurturing talent and transforming communities. He highlighted the week-long activities planned, including free medical camps and digital and financial literacy programs for the Coast region’s residents.
Jackson Mutua, Safaricom Business Lead Coast Region, encouraged fans to support their teams during the tournament. He mentioned ongoing community engagements and praised the successful launch and entertainment aspects of the initiative.
Kilifi County Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule commended Safaricom’s initiative to nurture youth talent and urged young people to participate in sports for skill development.
The community engagement activities will culminate in the Safaricom Chapa Dimba regional final matches at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa, featuring eight teams competing for the title.
Safaricom Chapa Dimba aims to offer a structured platform for scouts and coaches to discover new talent, build feeder systems for Kenyan football leagues, and train a total of 250 coaches. The tournament targets young people aged 16 to 20 years, promoting sports development across the country.
