Safaricom Launches Chapa Dimba Finals and Community Initiatives in Central Region
Safaricom has kicked off the central regional finals of the Chapa Dimba football tournament in Mwea, accompanied by a host of community initiatives designed to make a positive impact on local lives.
The week’s activities began with a free medical camp, a collaborative effort by the M-PESA Foundation, Zuri Health, and Lion SightFirst Eye Hospital, which served over 3,000 residents.
Additionally, Safaricom will offer free digital and financial literacy training at Nice Town Hotel, targeting Boda Boda riders, vendors, and small business owners among its customer base in the region.
Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, expressed excitement about the upcoming Central Regional finals, which precede the national finals scheduled in Kisumu. The company plans to engage with regional customers by providing various services, including the literacy training.
The event will also feature a clinic for players and coaches, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and leadership. The clinic will introduce Safaricom’s GPS Sports Vests, AI-powered devices designed to enhance player performance and facilitate scouting by tracking metrics like distance, speed, and power scores.
In line with its commitment to community development, the Safaricom Foundation will host a forum to share its strategic agenda for 2024, focusing on education, health, and economic empowerment.
The culmination of these initiatives will be the Chapa Dimba regional finals on the 23rd and 24th of March 2024 at Wang’uru Stadium, Kirinyaga County.
Eight teams, four boys’ and four girls’, will compete, including Barcelona FC, Kartzville FC, St. Joseph Sec, Kiwanja Queens, Karatina Homeboyz, Lysa FC, Kiaga Sec, and M-PESA Foundation.
