Sakaja Super Cup Heats Up as 231 Teams Compete at Sub-County Level

The highly anticipated second edition of the Sakaja Super Cup is well underway, with 231 teams now facing off at the sub-county level. Organized by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, the tournament aims to promote grassroots football across Nairobi, providing young talents a unique platform to display their skills.

This week, sub-county draws were conducted on Monday, October 11, setting the stage for intense matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. By the end of the weekend, only eight teams from each sub-county will remain in the competition.

In Starehe sub-county, teams are set for fierce matchups: Kawasaki FC and Spade Works FC received byes, while Ajax FC will clash with Highway Secondary’s school team. Other matchups include NYS versus Pelico Jam, Autotech taking on Memon FC, and Technical University of Kenya’s TUK Hammers facing Riverbank FC.

Lang’ata sub-county will also see some exciting pairings, with South C Rangers challenging RUSA FC, and Mtaani FC going up against Undugu Family. In a much-anticipated derby, Kuwinda United will host Kuwinda FC, while Bomas of Kenya squares off against CUK Kysa.

In Nairobi East, Huruma Youth looks to advance against Sagan City, and last year’s semifinalists, Kibagare Slums, will battle Uthiru Vision. Kitisuru All-Stars meet Gachie Soccer, while Kipande FC hosts RYSA FC.

Westlands sub-county has 16 teams left, all eager to secure their place in the next round. Meanwhile, Dagoretti South’s 17 teams will compete for advancement, while all eight remaining teams in Dagoretti North automatically qualify for the next stage.

Makadara sub-county will feature a showdown between rivals Mbotela Kamaliza and Jericho All-Stars, promising to be the match of the day. Other highlights include Gava FC versus Makadara Youth and Maringo Select facing Young Warriors FC.

In Embakasi Central, Kayole Youth goes up against Kayole Masters, and Komarock Youth plays away to Komarock Rangers. Defending champions Githurai All-Stars continue their title defense against Bentoz United in Roysambu sub-county, while last year’s runner-up Victors Faith faces Ruai FC in Kasarani.

The Sakaja Super Cup, sponsored by the Johnson Sakaja Foundation in collaboration with the Football Kenya Federation Nairobi East and West branches and the Nairobi County Government, follows a knockout format, beginning at the sub-county level. This structure has contributed to its growing reputation for excellent organization and its significant prize pool, setting it apart from other local tournaments.

In just its second year, the Sakaja Super Cup has established itself as a prominent fixture in Nairobi’s sports scene, renowned for its focus on young talent and high standards.

With scouts and football fans eagerly watching, the tournament’s grand finale in December promises to be a standout moment in the city’s sports calendar.
