Samman Vohra emerged victorious in the season-opening Eldoret Rally, clearing all six stages in a remarkable time of 1 hour 17 minutes and 37 seconds in a spectacular display of skill and speed.
Behind the wheel of a Skoda Fabia Rally2 and navigated by Alfir Khan, the Nairobi-based young talent outclassed his opponents, including reigning Kenya champion Jasmeet Chana, who piloted a Mitsubishi Lancer B13, by a significant margin of 1 minute and 33 seconds.
Yasin Nasser, the reigning Uganda and Tanzania Rally champion, secured the third position driving a Ford Fiesta.
Nasser, a two-time champion in Uganda in 2019 and 2023, aims to achieve a historic hat-trick this season by clinching victory in all elite championship titles across the three East African countries.
For Vohra, who previously competed in local Rally Raid and Autocross events, the victory marks a significant milestone as he sets his sights on securing his maiden Kenya National Rally Championship title in 2024.
Reflecting on his success, Vohra expressed his determination to continue improving his performance rally by rally. He credited the meticulous overhaul and reconstruction of his car for their triumphant start to the season.
Ian Duncan, navigated by Jaspal Matharu in a Nissan Patrol pickup, secured the fourth position overall while also clinching victory in the SPV (Specially Prepared Vehicles) Category.
Another standout performer was Joey Ghose, who piloted a Porsche 911 to sixth place overall, claiming victory in the Classic Car category.
Looking ahead, the WRC Safari Rally will serve as the second round of the KNRC on the weekend of March 28-31. Additionally, the Kenyan round of the FIA African Rally Championship (Equator) will contribute towards KNRC points.
Notably, this year’s Equator Rally Kenya, initially slated for October, has been rescheduled to June, promising an action-packed season ahead for rally enthusiasts.
