Sane Sees Red as Germany’s Woes Continue Against Austria
Germany suffered another setback in Julian Nagelsmann’s early tenure as they were defeated by Austria, marking their second consecutive loss.
The former Bayern Munich manager, who took charge in September, faced challenges with a draw against Mexico and a defeat by Turkey after winning his opening game against the USA.
Marcel Sabitzer secured the lead for Austria under Ralf Rangnick’s management, and Christoph Baumgartner sealed the victory. The situation worsened for Germany as Leroy Sane, the former Manchester City winger, was sent off in the 49th minute for an altercation with Phillipp Mwene.
Nagelsmann expressed concerns about the team’s performance, stating, “We’re not playing freely. We have an unbelievable amount of work to do in each position.”
He emphasized the need for acceptance while avoiding the victim mentality. Captain Ilkay Gundogan acknowledged the frustration and disappointment, highlighting the team’s struggle to transfer their training dynamics to the pitch.
The defeat adds to Germany’s challenges as they prepare for Euro 2024, with both teams awaiting the group stage draw scheduled for December 2.
