Senegal showcased their unwavering spirit and remarkable skill as they staged a stunning comeback, scoring two goals in just four minutes, to secure their first-ever U17 Africa Cup of Nations championship.

In an electrifying final held at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, Senegal triumphed with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Morocco.

The dramatic turnaround began when substitute Mamadou Sawane, who had just stepped off the bench, headed home the winning goal in the 83rd minute.

It was a moment of pure jubilation for the Senegalese, who had rallied back from a goal down to clinch the prestigious title.

Morocco’s captain, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, had given his team the early advantage with a 14th-minute goal, a lead they managed to hold onto until the 79th minute. It was then that Serigne Falou Diouf equalized for Senegal, converting a penalty awarded with the assistance of VAR technology.

With this latest triumph, Senegal now holds the titles for the U20, U17, and senior teams, a testament to their dominance and talent in African football.

This remarkable victory in Algeria adds to an already extraordinary year for Senegal. They had previously claimed the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) title in February at the same venue and followed it up by winning the U20 AFCON title in Egypt in March.

Their U23 team is the only one missing from this impressive lineup as they did not qualify for the upcoming Cup of Nations, which also serves as an Olympic qualification tournament.

Captain Ait Boudlal had shown his prowess earlier in the match, breaking free from his markers to head home from an Abdel Hamid Maali corner in the 14th minute.

Morocco skillfully maintained their 1-0 lead until halftime, displaying excellent possession and tactical discipline.

The second half saw Senegal launch a relentless attack from the start, with Mamadou Sadio coming close to equalizing just 45 seconds into the half. On the other end, Morocco had an opportunity when Maali fired a shot from the edge of the box, but it narrowly missed the target.

Senegal’s remarkable turnaround came in the 76th minute when Captain Ait Boudlal was deemed to have handled the ball inside the penalty area. After reviewing the incident on the pitch-side monitor, the referee awarded a penalty, which Serigne confidently converted.

This goal ignited the Senegalese side, as they relentlessly pressed Morocco in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Just four minutes later, Senegal’s persistence paid off when substitute Sawane stormed into the edge of the six-yard box, heading home a corner to secure the winning goal.

The eruption of joy among the Senegalese players and fans echoed their historic achievement, etching their name in the annals of U17 African football.

This sensational victory epitomizes Senegal’s indomitable spirit and underscores their rising football prowess. It is a moment that will be celebrated and cherished, as Senegal continues to make their mark on the international stage, inspiring a new generation of football stars.
