Shabana FC clinched their first victory of the FKF Premier League season on Sunday evening, edging Kenya Police FC 1-0 in an intense encounter at Kisii’s Gusii Stadium.
Vincent Nyabuto netted the game’s only goal in the 35th minute, skillfully meeting a cross from James Mazembe to seal the win. Police goalkeeper Patrick Matasi was left rooted as Nyabuto’s precise header nestled into the bottom corner, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Kenya Police FC, who were aiming to extend their unbeaten run, had earlier come close to opening the score. In the ninth minute, Francis Kahata almost put the visitors ahead, but his low drive, following a clever assist from David Okoth, struck the outside of the post.
Minutes later, Alfred Mang’eni missed a golden chance, nodding a corner wide of the target in the 20th minute. Matasi, usually reliable between the posts, then had a moment to forget as he completely misjudged a cross, only to be bailed out by defender Daniel Sakari, who cleared Kevin Omondi’s dangerous attempt from inside the box.
The ‘law enforcers’ had a few flashes of hope, with Okoth’s ambitious left-footed shot from range nearly catching Shabana keeper Stephen Ochieng off guard. But it was Shabana’s night, as Nyabuto’s perfectly timed goal gave the Kisii-based club the crucial win they had been chasing.
Late Drama as AFC Leopards Rescue a Point Against Mara Sugar
Over at Dandora Stadium, a last-gasp goal from Sydney Lokale salvaged a 1-1 draw for AFC Leopards against newly-promoted Mara Sugar FC. Mara Sugar took the lead through Meshack Karani’s opportunistic strike in the 42nd minute after he capitalized on Brian Ochieng’s tackle on Samuel Semo.
Lokale, who missed a few clear chances, redeemed himself in the dying seconds, slotting Clifton Miheso’s cross into the net to give Leopards a hard-earned point and relieve some pressure on coach Thomas Trucha.
Bidco United and Homeboyz Prevail with Decisive Wins
Elsewhere, Bidco United overcame Bandari FC 2-0 at Ukunda Showground, with Marvin Amuka and Clinton Asiago scoring just before halftime to secure the points.
In another match, Kakamega Homeboyz defeated Murang’a Seal by the same margin at the Sportpesa Arena in Murang’a, continuing their strong start to the season.
These high-energy performances across the league underline the competitive spirit as teams battle for early supremacy in the FKF Premier League.
