The national men’s rugby 7s team suffered a 21-7 defeat to Australia in their second match at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday evening.

Australia took an early lead when James Turner scored the first try just 29 seconds into the game, justifying his place in the starting lineup.

Shujaa’s co-captain Tony Omondi responded swiftly, capitalizing on a ruck to score a try in the second minute. Omondi successfully converted to level the score, demonstrating strong leadership.

Kenya then applied significant pressure on Australia’s 22, but failed to execute the final touch. Nathan Lawson capitalized on this by scoring Australia’s second try off a long kick, with Dietrich Roache adding the conversion, giving Australia a 14-7 lead at halftime.

Despite Wambua’s team attacking fiercely in the second half, they struggled to break through Australia’s solid defense. In the final moments of the match, Corey Toole scored Australia’s third try from a cross-field pass, with Roache converting once more to seal the victory.

Shujaa will now face Samoa on Thursday afternoon in their final Pool B match.
