Kenya Sevens is gearing up for the forthcoming Safari Sevens tournament, commencing on November 17 at the RFUEA ground, with an intensive one-week residential training camp planned for the team next week.
The team has already been actively training, and now they are intensifying their preparations with this residential camp.
After clinching the Africa Cup Sevens crown and earning a spot in the upcoming Olympics, the team remains focused on improvement, as stated by team manager Steve Sewe. “The camp is an ideal platform to address specific areas of the game as we gear up for the Safari Sevens,” Sewe commented.
In anticipation of the Safari Sevens, Kenya will participate with two squads; Shujaa and Morans. According to Sewe, the level of competition within the team is fervent, given the depth of the 30-player squad, where every individual is vying for a spot in the final selection.
Among the competing teams at the Safari Sevens are Africa Cup bronze medalists Uganda, Zimbabwe, Red Wailers, and former champions Samurai.
Sewe highlighted the expected competitive intensity from these participating teams, stressing the importance of these matchups for their preparations.
The team’s future itinerary involves participation in the Challenger Series across three legs, Hong Kong in January, Munich in March, and the final leg in Madrid in May.
The primary ambition is to secure a top-four finish across these events, enabling promotion to the World Seven Series for the 2024-2025 season.
Having experienced relegation from the World Seven Series, Shujaa is determined to regain their former status. With a dynamic and youthful roster, Sewe expressed confidence in the team’s potential to achieve this objective. Their determination is fueled by their playoff loss to Canada, which led to their relegation in May.
