Simba SC, after their quarter-final exit from the African Football League (AFL), has made significant managerial changes by mutually terminating the contract of head coach Roberto Oliveira.

The Brazilian coach had been in charge for 18 months before making the decision. Additionally, midfielders’ coach Corneille Hategekimana has left the club as Simba moves swiftly to restructure their coaching staff following their continental disappointment.

In the interim, assistant coach Daniel Cadena has taken over as the interim head, supported by Seleman Matola until a permanent replacement is found for the coaching position. The decision comes after Simba was eliminated from the AFL by Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly in the last eight, losing on away goals last month.

In an official statement, the club confirmed the mutual termination of contracts, expressing gratitude for the contributions of both coaches, while wishing them success in their future endeavours.

Simba currently holds the third position in the Tanzanian Premier League and recently suffered a significant 5-1 defeat against Young Africans in their last match.

Oliveira leaves the club after a mixed spell, which saw them clinch the league title last season but faced setbacks in progressing beyond the Champions League and AFL quarter-finals.

The focus of the club’s board now shifts towards appointing a suitable successor to reaffirm Simba’s dominance in Tanzanian football.
