Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner achieved a stunning comeback on Sunday to win his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. Sinner, the fourth seed, battled back from two sets down to defeat Russian Daniil Medvedev in a grueling five-set final, securing a historic victory.

In a match lasting three hours and 44 minutes, Sinner displayed resilience and determination, winning 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. The victory marked a significant milestone for the 22-year-old, who became the first Italian man to win a Grand Slam since 1976.

Medvedev, ranked third globally, had a strong start, dominating the first two sets with his aggressive play. However, Sinner fought back, showcasing an impressive performance that included 14 aces, 50 winners, and breaking Medvedev’s serve four times.

The Italian collapsed to the floor in celebration after match point, emphasizing the emotional significance of the win. Sinner’s triumph makes him the youngest man to win the Australian Open since Novak Djokovic in 2008.

While Sinner praised Medvedev for his outstanding efforts throughout the tournament, the Russian acknowledged Sinner’s deserving victory. Medvedev, who has now lost five of six Grand Slam finals, expressed hope for future success.

Sinner’s win not only secured his place in tennis history but also delivered a bitter blow to Medvedev, who faced a similar situation in the 2022 Australian Open final against Rafael Nadal.

In his victory speech, Sinner thanked his team and expressed gratitude for the special atmosphere at the Slam. The Italian’s remarkable journey to his first Grand Slam title adds a new chapter to the evolving landscape of men’s tennis.
