The Snipers basketball team secured their promotion to the Premier League after a commanding 3-0 series sweep over the Stanbic Shields in the final match of the best-of-five series.

The decisive game, held at a packed Nyayo Gymnasium, saw the Snipers triumph with a 56-45 victory. The electric crowd, filled with fans from both teams, eagerly anticipated whether the Snipers would clinch the series or if the Stanbic Shields could extend their hopes.

Determined to keep their chances alive, the Stanbic Shields started strong. Brian Laban led his team with precision and consistent scoring, setting the pace for an intense battle.

The Snipers, however, relied on strategic plays and tight defense. By the end of the first quarter, the Stanbic Shields held a narrow lead, 14-13.

In the second quarter, the Snipers began to find their rhythm. Star player Waswa Wesley made his presence felt, scoring from all angles and driving his team forward. The Snipers’ defense tightened, making it difficult for the Stanbic Shields to score. The Snipers outscored their opponents 16-12 in the quarter, taking a 29-26 lead into halftime.

The third quarter turned into a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to maintain momentum. The Snipers edged out the Stanbic Shields 11-8, thanks to Wesley’s continued dominance and crucial steals and blocks from their defense. Heading into the final quarter, the Snipers led 40-34.

With promotion on the line, the fourth quarter showcased the Snipers’ determination and skill. Fueled by the prospect of joining the elite, they played with intensity and focus. Wesley continued his scoring spree, ending the game with an impressive 20 points. Despite a valiant effort from Brian Laban, who finished with 18 points, the Stanbic Shields were unable to close the gap.

Fans flooded the court to celebrate the historic moment. The Snipers had not only won the match but also secured their place in the Premier League, ready to take on new challenges next season.

“It’s a great joy for the team; it means a lot to the boys as we prepare to honor Coach Balozi, who will be commemorating one year since his passing. We dedicate this win to him. We will be honoring him next month, reflecting on the great lessons he left us with. His memory is still fresh for me and the team. We are back in the Premier League and cannot wait to face the new challenges ahead,” remarked Snipers’ coach Ochieng after the game.
