Kombani Girls, the reigning champions in the Coast Region, are eager to resume their preparations for the upcoming term two national games in Kakamega County.
The girls’ soccer team, led by Head Coach Mukasa Amboko, is set to make its debut appearance in the prestigious event next month.
Coach Amboko emphasized the importance of challenging his players despite their recent success, and to achieve this, the team plans to play two friendly matches against division one league teams. He believes that fine-tuning their skills and rectifying any mistakes will be crucial in their journey to Kakamega.
In a remarkable achievement, Kombani Girls managed to secure a place in the nationals after only a year, a feat that took Kwale Girls four years to accomplish. Coach Amboko expressed his delight in the girls’ exceptional talent and determination.
The Kwale County-based school secured the ladies’ title by defeating Minhaj from Tana River with a score of 3-1 in the final held in Voi, Taita Taveta County over the weekend.
Despite facing an initial setback with a 0-1 loss against Mwasere in the group stage, Kombani Girls rallied to win two other matches before triumphing over Mkongani with a convincing 3-0 victory in the semi-finals.
With their eyes set on the national stage, Kombani Girls will face strong opponents in Pool ‘A,’ including Butere Girls from Western, Njabini from Eastern, and Dagoretti Mixed from Nairobi.
Coach Amboko, drawing from his experience in leading Kwale High to clinch national and East Africa titles in 2018, will provide valuable guidance and leadership to the debutants as they take on formidable rivals in the tournament.
Indeed, Kombani Girls’ maiden appearance in the term two nationals promises to be an exciting and competitive event, as the talented team looks to make their mark on the grand stage of school soccer.
