“Sport has the power to change the world”, CS Ababu Reflects on Shujaa Victory

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba extends warm congratulations to the triumphant Shujaa team for successfully defending their Safari Sevens title, outclassing Samurai with an impressive 19-0 victory at the RFUEA grounds this Sunday.

The home crowd was treated to an exhilarating spectacle that had everyone on their feet, passionately rallying behind the team.

“Hongera Shujaa for your well-deserved Safari7s victory. Big up fans for the amazing atmosphere, including Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga who not only passionately cheered Team Kenya but also graciously accepted my invitation to join us in prize giving,” Ababu enthusiastically shared on his X platform.

Shujaa’s stellar performance was a beacon of triumph, rescuing the day after the Lionesses, the women’s team, narrowly lost 15-12 to neighbouring rivals Uganda Lady Cranes in a closely contested match.

Reflecting on the power of sports, Ababu remarked, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand.

Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.” Ababu, who attended a Sunday service at Don Bosco Catholic Church in Karen before gracing the pulsating finals, encapsulated the spirit of sportsmanship and unity.

The two-day competition proved to be nothing short of a resounding success. Fans turned out in large numbers, creating an electric atmosphere that showcased the unwavering zeal of both players and supporters alike.

The Safari Sevens once again demonstrated the unifying power of sports and the ability to inspire hope and joy in the hearts of fans.
