St Anthony’s Kitale, reigning national secondary schools boys’ soccer champions, is set to showcase their prowess at the 11th edition of the Yala Invitational tournament happening this weekend.
The Solidarity Boys, confirmed participants, will be defending their title in the multi-disciplinary event hosted at St Mary’s School, Yala in Siaya County.
The tournament, featuring rugby (7s and 15s), basketball (5×5 and 3×3), hockey, soccer (under 19 and 16), volleyball, handball, and racquet games (for both boys and girls), expects participation from over 30 schools and institutions. Notable competitors include Kakamega High School, Kisumu Day, Ebwali, St Peter’s Mumias, Ambira, and national 7’s champions Koyonzo in rugby.
The event aims to provide a platform for teams to gauge themselves against top competition before the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association games commence in April.
Additionally, the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Western region coaching and refereeing course is scheduled at St Peter’s Mumias during the same period, covering various sports in preparation for the 2024 co-curricular activities.
The training seeks to equip coaches and referees with updated techniques and rule changes for the upcoming events. Participants will contribute Sh2,500 for certification, facilitation, and training materials.
