Korhogo, located in the northern reaches of Ivory Coast, is on the brink of a transformative era as it prepares to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023-24.

At the heart of this anticipated transformation lies the meticulously crafted Stadium of Korhogo, not only designed to accommodate the continent’s premier football competition but also to fortify local infrastructure and community development.

Stadium of Korhogo: A Testament to Sports Advancement
Officially unveiled on November 4, 2023, the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium, named after Ivory Coast’s late Prime Minister, serves as a symbol of the nation’s dedication to fostering sports in the Poro region.

As the largest sports facility in northern Ivory Coast, the stadium’s vast expanse of 20.17 hectares and a seating capacity of 20,000 epitomize the visionary approach of the Ivorian Head of State toward progressive sports development.

Investment and Infrastructure
The realization of this significant sports institution required a substantial investment of 50.02 billion CFA Francs, equivalent to 76.2 million Euros. However, the project extends beyond the confines of the stadium itself. The infrastructure encompasses four training grounds, an AFCON city featuring 32 villas, and a 3-star hotel with 50 rooms, reflecting a holistic strategy for development.

Boosting Local Economy and Tourism
Since its inauguration, the stadium has already hosted the 3rd edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League and is poised to host matches for teams in Group D during AFCON. Additionally, with Korhogo boasting rich tourist sites, the city is set to attract both football enthusiasts and tourists, thereby invigorating the local economy and tourism industry.

The construction of the Stadium of Korhogo for AFCON 2023-24 signifies more than just a venue for matches. It stands as a symbol of progress, an investment in the community, and a beacon of hope for the future of sports and development in Ivory Coast.
