Harambee Starlets faced a 1-1 draw against Botswana in the initial leg of the 2024 African Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers held at Nyayo Stadium this afternoon.

Botswana took the lead in the 36th minute courtesy of Lesego Dudetsang Radia Kanyo, while Marjolen Nekesa equalized for the home team with a penalty in the 50th minute. Despite Starlets missing a penalty in the dying minutes, they couldn’t secure a victory.

To reach this decisive round, Starlets triumphed over Cameroon with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory at Nyayo Stadium on September 26, concluding a 1-1 aggregate after the two legs.

Beldine Odemba’s squad must secure a win in the return leg fixture scheduled for December 5 in Gaborone to qualify for their second WAFCON tournament.

Starlets made their debut in the continental competition during the 2016 edition in Cameroon, achieving a historic victory over Algeria.
