The upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers will see the Harambee Starlets under-17 team facing off against the Democratic Republic of Congo in February 2024.
On the other hand, the under-20 team will have a chance to settle scores with Angola in the second round of qualifiers, which is scheduled for October this year and will consist of two-legged matches.
A total of 25 nations will be participating in the under-17 qualifiers, while 35 countries will be vying for a spot in the under-20 qualification process. In the under-17 format, the first round involves two teams determined based on their participation in the previous under-17 World Cup edition, with only one team advancing to the second round.
The third round will feature 12 teams, with six eventually progressing to the penultimate fourth round. From the fourth round, only three teams will secure their spot to represent Africa in the prestigious tournament next year.
As for the under-20 category, the opening round will consist of six teams selected according to their participation in the previous U20 Women’s World Cup editions, with only three teams advancing to the second round.
The journey in this category will culminate in the fifth and final round, where only two teams will earn the coveted opportunity to compete in the World Cup.
