Strathmore University Blades secured a convincing 74-51 victory over Kenyatta University Pirates in a recent Kenya Basketball League match held at the Nyayo Stadium gymnasium over the weekend.

Despite trailing 38-21 at halftime, Kenyatta University managed to stage a late comeback in the last quarter, outscoring their opponents 16-11. However, their efforts fell short.

Coach Caleb Osewe of Kenyatta University expressed optimism for the future, stating, “Overall, this is only the beginning as I am rebuilding. I have fresh players, and it will take some time for them to gel and start playing as a team.” He acknowledged the learning experience and their intention to adapt their approach to the league.

Leading the scoring for Strathmore University Blades were Robert Odhiambo with 15 points and Kennedy Dwalo with 10. Notably, Blades suffered a setback in their previous game, losing 64-54 to Umoja.

Umoja, on the other hand, were led by Douglas Kitavi, who contributed a game-high 20 points, with Clinton Ligondo adding 12 and Julius Athiambo chipping in 11.

Blades’ coach, Tony Ochieng, recognized that their performance against Umoja was subpar, emphasizing the need to play more cohesively as a team. He viewed the defeat as a valuable wake-up call for his squad.

In contrast, Kenyatta University’s women’s team faced a heavy defeat, with Zetech University Sparks prevailing 101-11.

In the lower division matches held at United States International University (USIU) courts, Moischers dominated Feba with a commanding 103-49 victory. Meanwhile, Strathmore University Swords displayed dominance over Multi-Media University (MMU) by defeating them 80-31.

In other lower division clashes, Neosasa narrowly defeated National Bank of Kenya 58-54 but encountered an 83-60 loss to Zetech University Titans. Creek secured a 55-39 win against Hope. In the women’s category, Safe Spaces suffered a close 64-60 defeat to Footprints in an intense battle.
