In a significant move, Tanzania has welcomed Al Hilal, a top Sudanese football club, to participate in its national league amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan that has halted sports activities there.

The Tanzanian Football Federation has confirmed that Al Hilal, the current champions of the Sudanese premier league, will join the Tanzanian league as of August, albeit in a non-competitive capacity, with their games being classified as friendlies.

This arrangement offers Tanzanian teams the chance to engage with and learn from a renowned African football club, enhancing the profile of the Tanzanian league, which is already celebrated for its competitiveness and passionate fanbase.

The conflict in Sudan, which began in mid-April 2023, has seen intense clashes between military factions, leading to a humanitarian crisis that threatens the nation with famine. Amidst this turmoil, the inclusion of Al Hilal in the Tanzanian league stands as a gesture of solidarity and support for the football community affected by the war.
