Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has defended goalkeeper Andre Onana, labeling him as the Premier League’s second-best goalkeeper based on statistics.

Ten Hag highlighted that the Cameroonian goalkeeper is tied for the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season and has prevented 3.67 goals, the second-highest in the league according to Opta calculations despite Onana’s errors in the recent 3-3 draw against Galatasaray.

Onana’s summer signing for £47.2 million from Inter Milan aimed to fill the void left by David de Gea, but he has faced scrutiny for mistakes in the Champions League.

Ten Hag expressed confidence in Onana’s abilities, emphasizing his strong character and personality. Manchester United faces Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Donny van de Beek Advised to Seek January Move

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has advised midfielder Donny van de Beek to consider a move in the January transfer window to revitalize his career.

Van de Beek, who recovered from a knee injury, has struggled to secure a regular spot in the team, making only two substitute appearances this season. Not included in the Champions League squad, Van de Beek has faced challenges breaking into the team’s midfield.

Ten Hag acknowledged Van de Beek’s need for consistent playing time to benefit his career. The 26-year-old midfielder, who joined United from Ajax for £35 million three-and-a-half years ago, expressed openness to seeking a fresh challenge in a recent interview. Van de Beek’s contract with United runs for another 18 months.

Tyrell Malacia Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has undergone successful knee surgery after experiencing setbacks in his recovery. The 24-year-old, who has not featured in the current season, had an initial operation during the summer.

Malacia will begin rehabilitation at the club and is expected to return to action early in the new year. The setback has prolonged Malacia’s absence from the pitch, with the defender aiming for a successful recovery to contribute to the team’s defensive lineup.
