The Kenyan national women’s boxing team is set to participate in the World Women’s Boxing Championships in New Delhi, India from March 15th to 31st.

According to the Boxing Federation of Kenya Secretary, General David Munuhe, the team is scheduled to leave the country tonight at 20:55 pm and arrive in Delhi at dawn the following day.

Despite concerns about the team’s limited time to acclimate to the new environment, Boxing Federation of Kenya Secretary General David Munuhe expressed confidence in their preparedness for the competition. Munuhe acknowledged that while they may not have time to acclimatize, the team has trained well and is ready to represent Kenya.

The delegation includes 11 boxers, as well as BFK President Anthony “Jamal” Otieno, head coach Musa Benjamin, and his assistants David Munuhe and John Waweru, and Ibrahim Bilali among others.

The squad comprises experienced boxers who have previously participated in various global championships such as the World Women’s Boxing Championships, Olympics, and Commonwealth Games, which gives them an advantage in adapting to the new environment.

Captain Elizabeth Andiego, who has competed in all the aforementioned competitions, is the most experienced boxer in the squad.

Former Commonwealth Games flyweight bronze medallist Christine Ongare is also a strong contender, having participated in all competitions except the Olympics.

Light welterweight Teresia Wanjiru is another promising medal prospect at the global championships.

Other members of the team include Friza Asiko Anyango (Walter), Elizabeth Akinyi (Middle), Veronica Mbithe (Light Fly), Amina Martha (Bantam), Stacy Ayoma (Light), Lorna Kusa (Light Middle), Ann Wanjiru (Fly), and Pauline Chege (Feather).
