City Thunder’s head coach, Brad Ibs, attributed their weekend triumph over reigning champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to a robust defensive strategy.

Despite missing several opportunities for easy conversions, the revamped Thunder maintained their perfect record in the men’s Basketball Premier League, securing a 65-45 victory over KPA at the Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa.

Ibs emphasized the significance of the team’s collective defensive effort, highlighting it as a focal point in their training sessions over the preceding two weeks.

He praised the players for executing great team defense, ultimately making a crucial difference in a challenging game.

Looking ahead, Ibs expressed optimism about their upcoming match against Ulinzi Warriors on Tuesday at the Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi. He conveyed the team’s eagerness to showcase Kenyan basketball on the international stage and hoped for continued improvement and cohesion among the players.

On the other hand, KPA head coach Sammy Kiki criticized his team’s poor defensive and offensive displays, characterizing the loss as a painful experience.

Acknowledging the need for improvement, Kiki emphasized the importance of focusing on the next league games and working on effective execution in offense.

As of now, City Thunder leads the league standings with 20 points from 10 matches, maintaining a flawless record. In contrast, KPA occupies the sixth position with 13 points, having played seven matches, won six, and suffered one defeat.
