Olympic 1500m silver medalist, Timothy Cheruiyot, showcased his form ahead of the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, with a commanding victory in the men’s 1500m at the Los Angeles Grand Prix on Saturday night.

The 2019 world champion displayed his prowess by clocking an impressive time of 3:31.47. He was followed closely by World Under 20 1500m champion, Reynold Cheruiyot, who secured second place with a time of 3:32.01. American athlete Hobbs Kesler claimed the third spot, crossing the finish line in 3:34.61.

This race marked Timothy’s return to competition since his participation in the Kip Keino Classic World Continental Tour Gold event on May 13, where he finished third in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:44.99.

For Reynold, it was a rare occasion where he missed out on the top spot, as he had been consistently achieving remarkable results. Since March, he secured a second-place finish at the Lille Half Marathon 5km race.

Furthermore, he clinched the continental title at Africa Under 20 Athletics Championships in Ndola, Zambia, and emerged victorious in the men’s 1500m race at the Kip Keino Classic, where he triumphed over World Indoor bronze medalist Abel Kipsang.

In the men’s 800m event, Kenyan athlete Festus Lagat, based in the United States, displayed an impressive performance by finishing second with a time of 1:44.98.

The first place was claimed by American runner Clayton Murphy, who clocked 1:44.75. Another American, Isaiah Jewett, secured the third position, recording a time of 1:45.10.

Kenya’s Noah Kibet, the World Indoor 800m silver medalist, showcased his skills in the same race and finished fifth with a time of 1:45.39.

Timothy Cheruiyot’s victory and impressive performance serve as a promising indication of his readiness for the upcoming World Championships, where he will undoubtedly be one of the contenders to watch in the men’s 1500m event.
