Egypt coach Rui Vitoria faces uncertainty over Mohamed Salah’s Africa Cup of Nations future after the Liverpool star sustained an injury during Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Ghana.

Salah left the Group B game late in the first half, grabbing the back of his left leg. Vitoria, hopeful it’s not a major problem, emphasized it’s too early for a definitive statement.

“We’re not certain about the issue. I’m optimistic it’s not a significant problem… It’s premature to make any conclusions,” remarked Vitoria following his team’s consecutive 2-2 draws in the tournament.

“Salah is an amazing player, one of the best players in the world, so we want to have this kind of player always with us.”

Egypt secured a point with goals from Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed after Mohammed Kudus and Ghana initially took the lead despite Salah’s absence. Vitoria praised the team’s resilience and underscored Salah’s vital role.

“The players were upset after conceding at the end of the first half…but it’s football, we changed the mindset in the second half, we went for the game with positive energy,” said Vitoria.

“Not because of Salah, but because the result was not good. The reaction and commitment of the team were good, but Salah is an amazing player and we cannot forget that.”

Vitoria emphasized that irrespective of the severity of Salah’s injury, his team remains fully capable of securing an eighth AFCON title, extending their record.
